DJI introduces DJI Terra for capturing, visualizing and analyzing data from drones
3D modeling software and cartography helps analyze data and make decisions

March 28, 2019 – DJI, a leading manufacturer of civil drones and drone cameras, today introduced DJI Terra, new software for converting drone data into digital 3D models and maps to simplify analysis and decision-making. DJI Terra allows businesses and organizations to use DJI drone technology to capture, visualize and analyze aerial imagery in a variety of industries: public safety, construction, infrastructure, agriculture and film production.

«DJI continues to develop affordable hardware and software to help organizations optimize workflows using drone technology and achieve superior results in their field of operations, – noted the director of the department for work with enterprises in Europe DJI Sunny Liao. – DJI Terra is an all-in-one mapping and modeling solution that makes it easy to use drone data for everything from accident scene mapping and infrastructure visual inspection to agricultural field mapping and construction site modeling.

Automatic route planning and data acquisition

Commercial drone pilots can quickly create flight paths in DJI Terra by choosing from options based on the type of site or assets, map, or 3D model they plan to create. There are three types of tasks:

• Territorial planning (Area) – Setting the boundaries of the flight zone on the map for quick survey of the area. DJI Terra automatically creates efficient flight route options based on the selected area.

• Waypoints– Create flight paths in or around objects using points and customizable parameters such as aircraft altitude, speed, direction, gimbal tilt and viewing angle. For complex applications that require more accurate results, use 3D flight visualization to design and simulate processes using existing 3D models.

• Camera tilt (Oblique)– Get rich data from multiple flights on the same route. With each flight, the camera angle is automatically adjusted to capture new details and obtain a detailed 3D model of the object from different viewing angles.

Real-time mapping and creation of detailed 3D models

With real-time mapping capabilities, DJI Terra allows drone pilots to quickly generate a 2D orthomosaic of the area where the flight is taking place. This is great for tasks where situational awareness is critical and decisions need to be made in minutes. DJI Terra is capable of quickly processing data and creating high-quality and realistic projections of any areas and objects through the reconstruction of detailed 2D orthomosaics and 3D models. This is used to reconstruct traffic accident events, track construction projects, or conduct large-scale infrastructure inspections on bridges and roads.

Data analysis made easy

In addition to creating maps and models, DJI Terra helps users analyze data and get instant insight into an object with distance, area, and volume information. The ability for users to edit annotations improves communication and reporting while working on projects. Users can get a detailed view of each image used to create the model to locate and highlight important elements. This is necessary to conduct detailed site inspections and reconstruct accident events.

The software is compatible with all DJI Enterpise series drones, as well as the Phantom 4 series of drones
