Modern technological challenges are shaping a reality where unmanned solutions have become a lifeline for inspections in difficult and even hazardous locations, especially with limited access. Our Swiss partner, Flyability – a company specializing in the development and production of drones for industrial inspections – has introduced a new feature called Resume Inspection. This update provides enhanced autonomous capabilities for the Elios 3 series UAVs, combining stability, autonomy, and the ability to create 3D maps using SLAM technology. This allows for accurate inspections without the need for physical access to the facility.
The Resume Inspection function allows the drone to return to the point where the Return-to-Home (RTH) function was previously activated after a battery replacement, choosing the shortest route for its movement.
Example of a conditional algorithm:
- when the drone’s battery reaches a low level, it automatically returns to the last RTH point.
- after the battery is replaced by a specialist, the drone autonomously returns to the operational point via the shortest route and continues its mission.
The benefits of the solution: reduced time to locate the starting point and increased work efficiency. This new feature is essential for indoor inspections, making missions more automated and smoother.
Smart RTH has been tested over the past two months and is now available to all Elios 3 premium subscribers. To unlock the new feature and begin using it, simply update the firmware. For more details, please visit the manufacturer’s website.
