Vodafone and DroneUA are conducting the first pilot project in Ukraine on the use of drones in telecom
On December 2, 2020, Vodafone and DroneUA held a press conference where they presented their pilot project to survey telecommunications facilities using industrial drones. Vodafone uses drones to plan and survey its own network. During the pilot project with the participation of DroneUA, which has been ongoing since March 2020, the company is actively using six unmanned vehicles in all regions of the country.
«Our new experiment coincided with the beginning of quarantine– Vodafone has hired drones. And we are already seeing results – Information obtained from drones allows us to plan and maintain the network better and faster. Today we are the leader in the construction of LTE-900 in Ukraine, – says Evgeny Frunza, technical director of Vodafone Ukraine. – The pace of construction, due to licensing requirements, is extremely high. Every week we connect hundreds of villages to high-speed Internet. Therefore, we are actively looking for new tools. This is the first time in Ukraine, but this is not Ukrainian know-how. There are many examples around the world of the successful use of drones in telecommunications and related fields – We can study them in detail thanks to access to Vodafone's global expertise.
