DroneUA has implemented the first automated XAG irrigation system in Ukraine. The technology has been integrated at VLASOV, a producer of organic berries. The project marks a new stage in the application of XAG technologies in Ukraine — from automating field operations with agricultural drones to digitally managing one of the key resources in agricultural production: water.
For DroneUA, this implementation is a continuation of its systematic development of automation technologies for Ukrainian agriculture. The company is XAG’s exclusive distributor in Ukraine and is developing a technology ecosystem for precision farming and modern agricultural production.
Agricultural automation has already moved beyond individual solutions or specific technological operations. The next stage is the integration of equipment, data, and production infrastructure into a unified system where more processes can be controlled remotely, planned precisely, and monitored.
XAG Smart Farm solutions complement XAG’s robotic field technologies with tools for irrigation automation, fertigation, and farm infrastructure management.
This allows farmers to remotely control equipment, monitor its operating parameters, and receive data on completed operations.
The first Ukrainian implementation of this irrigation technology took place at VLASOV.
The company specializes in crop production and berry cultivation. VLASOV holds valid organic certification, with certified products including organic strawberries and raspberries. Its products are sold both in Ukraine and on European markets, while the company’s further development plans include expanding its plantations and production infrastructure. For this type of production, precise irrigation management is particularly important.
Why Irrigation Automation Is Becoming a Strategic Technology
Water is one of the resources directly affecting the stability of agricultural production. But the challenge for a modern farm is no longer simply to provide irrigation. It is about delivering the right amount of water to the right area at the right time while controlling the entire system.
This is particularly critical for berry crops. Research and practical recommendations for raspberry growers indicate that water stress during fruiting can negatively affect berry quality, plant development, and yield. For strawberries, both insufficient and excessive irrigation can create problems: water deficiency causes plant stress, while excessive irrigation means inefficient resource use and can lead to nutrient losses.
As a result, irrigation precision is gradually becoming as important a component of farm management as variable-rate application, automated machinery guidance, or the use of agricultural drones.
From Manual Management to Digital Control
XAG Smart Farm technologies bring traditional irrigation infrastructure into the digital environment.
XAG smart valves enable remote water-flow management through the XAG Farm app, real-time monitoring of system pressure, grouping of equipment, and the creation of irrigation scenarios for different areas. The system also generates reports on completed operations, including their duration and operating parameters.
In practice, this changes the way irrigation is managed.
Instead of relying on numerous manual actions, farms can centrally manage the system, respond quickly to changes in its operation, and more precisely control water distribution between zones. Automatic valve regulation helps maintain the required water-delivery parameters, while digital data provides a foundation for analyzing and further optimizing production processes.
For businesses working with high-value crops and expanding their acreage, this means moving from dependence on constant manual control toward managed infrastructure that can grow alongside the farm.
The First Implementation as the Beginning of a New Direction for Ukrainian Agriculture
For DroneUA, the project at VLASOV is significant beyond a single farm.
Ukrainian agriculture has already made significant progress in using drones, precision farming systems, automated guidance, and digital data. The next stage is automating core farm infrastructure and integrating different technologies into a unified management system.
The first automated XAG irrigation system in Ukraine demonstrates how this approach is moving from concept to real-world implementation.
DroneUA’s role in this process is not simply to make global technology available on the Ukrainian market. The company is developing local expertise in its application, integrating solutions into real agricultural workflows, and creating practical use cases that can be scaled across the Ukrainian agricultural market.
It is through implementations like these that a new model of agriculture is taking shape — one where drones, robotic equipment, IoT devices, irrigation systems, and production data work not as separate tools, but as components of a single technology ecosystem.
The first installation of an automated XAG irrigation system at VLASOV marks a starting point for the development of this area in Ukraine — and another practical step toward more technology-driven, resource-efficient, and sustainable agriculture.
