Ukraine has become a new major player in the global drone technology arena and the largest drone manufacturer. In just 2.5 years, the country has managed to create an entire ecosystem of multidisciplinary enterprises that produce more than 300,000 new robotic devices per month, attracting the interest of the entire civilized world. In less than a week, on September 3-5, a large-scale exhibition, Commercial UAV Expo 2024, will start in Las Vegas. Organized by DroneUA and supported by Ukraine's diplomatic missions in the United States, including the Embassy in Washington and the Consulate General in San Francisco, leading technology companies will come together to showcase Ukraine's potential in drone manufacturing.
Ahead of the event, Valerii Iakovenko, co-founder and managing partner of DroneUA and Futurology, spoke with the organizers of the Commercial UAV Expo. In his interview, he shared insights into the development of the agricultural industry, the civilian application of technologies, and the opportunities that the Ukrainian pavilion presents.
Development of the Ukrainian drone sector: who comprises the market?
“The Ukrainian drone technology market currently includes about 700 companies, comprising both state-owned and commercial enterprises. Over 200 of these are actively working on developing drone technologies and components. A key feature is that the market has mainly developed due to private initiatives. It is the private companies that have become the main driving force behind the growth of the Ukrainian drone manufacturing segment,” noted Valerii Iakovenko. This indicates a well-segmented and multi-profile market that brings together a whole cluster of players.
For the first time in the history of the Commercial UAV Expo, the Ukrainian pavilion will be presented. What is its uniqueness?
“The Ukrainian pavilion is an example of the ecosystem that has been created in Ukraine over the past few years. It includes manufacturers of ready-to-use solutions in the field of drones and robotics, component manufacturers, and professional teams engaged in specialized industrial applications of technologies,” emphasized the co-founder and managing partner of DroneUA and Futurology.
The uniqueness of the Ukrainian pavilion is defined by open opportunities to create international partnerships, namely, to obtain contacts not only of the companies that are supposed to be physically present at the event but also of those representing the Ukrainian ecosystem as a whole. Visitors will be given the opportunity to contact any business represented in the Ukrainian catalog. Even those Ukrainian companies that cannot join the Ukrainian pavilion will receive all the necessary contact databases to find and create new partnerships with American businesses.
Which companies are participating in the Ukrainian pavilion at the Commercial UAV Expo?
Іakovenko notes that the Ukrainian pavilion aims to present all possible players in the Ukrainian ecosystem of drones for commercial use. Some of these companies have already become well-known in the market: DroneUA, Bavovna AI, RadioBird, KARA DAG, FREEUA, FarmFleet, Boxo Ukraine, Piranha Tech, and Fleet of Millions initiative, which is aimed at promoting and expanding the global presence of Ukrainian robotics technologies. These companies are already demonstrating the strong potential of the Ukrainian drone technology market and its competitiveness on the global stage.
