The efficiency of modern agricultural operations is increasingly defined by how quickly captured imagery can be interpreted and converted into actionable maps for field execution.

Accordingly, our Swiss partner Pix4D—a leading developer of specialized photogrammetry and mapping software—has released the latest update to its ecosystem: PIX4Dfields 2.11. The release highlights new False Color Composite Views for faster interpretation of RGB and multispectral data, expanded integrations for field operations—specifically new exports for EAVision spray drones and Agrifac—and added support for the Fujifilm GFX100S II camera.

False color composites: turning spectral data into clear, actionable indicator maps

PIX4Dfields 2.11 introduces a tool that translates spectral information—often not directly visible in standard RGB imagery—into clear false color composite maps. The workflow assigns invisible spectral bands (including Near-Infrared (NIR)) or specific channel combinations to visible Red, Green, Blue colors, instantly highlighting agronomically relevant differences across the field.

These composites make it possible to quickly identify:

  • vegetation health and vigor, distinguishing high-vigor areas from zones under stress;
  • soil properties as a distinct surface type;
  •  water bodies;
  • early stress indicators that are difficult or impossible to detect in natural color imagery.

Excess Green Composite Index on RGB imagery highlighting all green vegetation (orange color), separating from soil and man-made surfaces (blue color). Recommended for plant segmentation and weed detection.

On RGB data, the Excess Green Composite Index highlights all green vegetation, separating it from soil and man-made surfaces, and is recommended for plant segmentation and weed detection.

The Yellow Composite Index is used to detect signs of plant chlorosis and senescence. In addition, version 2.11 includes composite views that, within a single visualization layer, use different colors to simultaneously distinguish key surface types across the field: dense vegetation, stressed or dry vegetation, bare soil or urban areas, and water bodies.

In turn, False Color Composites can be applied to both drone and satellite data layers using RGB or multispectral imagery. The release also highlights a rapid diagnostics workflow that can be useful even without a multispectral drone.

Expanded field operations: exports for EAVision and Agrifac

PIX4Dfields is used to create variable-rate and spot-spraying prescription maps compatible with a wide range of agricultural equipment—from tractors and field sprayers to spray drone platforms. In version 2.11, Pix4D strengthens equipment integrations through two new export options:

  • Boundary mission operation export for EAVision spray drones — exports mission boundaries to streamline spray task preparation within EAVision systems.
  • Agrifac tractor operation export — exports targeted prescription maps directly to Agrifac tractors to support variable-rate and spot applications.

Fujifilm GFX100S II support

The update also adds support for the Fujifilm GFX100S II camera, enabling users to leverage data from this high-resolution medium-format camera in agricultural projects within PIX4Dfields.
