Mapping is a key tool for real-time situational assessment, enabling teams to coordinate actions and make informed decisions in emergency conditions. The rapid generation of accurate maps allows emergency services, search and rescue teams, and humanitarian operations to respond more effectively to complex and high-risk situations.
Our Swiss partner, PIX4D — a leading developer of specialized mapping and photogrammetry software — has released the PIX4Dreact 1.6 update, a solution actively used by rapid response teams in many countries worldwide.
The software combines high processing speed with full autonomy, enabling the creation of accurate 2D maps in environments with limited infrastructure. It operates entirely offline and does not require cloud services or a stable internet connection, making it highly effective during emergency situations. Its core capability is the rapid stitching of large volumes of imagery into a single orthomosaic that can be used for on-site analysis, operational coordination, or post-event documentation.
Version 1.6 expands analytical capabilities and accelerates field workflows with a new location search function that ensures precise geolocation — even with minimal input:
- by place name
- by ZIP/postal code
- by GPS coordinates
Situational awareness tools have been enhanced. Users can now count objects on the map using multipoint markers. This makes it possible to record the number of vehicles, debris, or other critical elements — both for internal coordination and for reporting purposes.
Map export with annotations has become more flexible: users can now save images in JPEG or PNG formats, making it easier to share visual information — even with stakeholders who do not use GIS tools.
Batch project import and export have been implemented to support large datasets. This streamlines archive management, facilitates data transfer between teams, and helps prepare for upcoming tasks. Each map also displays the amount of storage space it occupies.
The software has been optimized for Apple M-series (ARM) processors, reducing processing time by 29%. For example, a dataset of 775 images totaling 4.9 GB is now processed in 1.8 minutes, compared to 2.56 minutes previously.
PIX4Dreact 1.6 is a specialized solution designed for operations under time, resource, and connectivity constraints. Its functionality is focused on rapidly delivering reliable geospatial information without internet access, enabling decision-making based on up-to-date mapping data.
