The first professional union has appeared in Ukraine, which unites the interests of all drone pilots — “Professional Union of Unmanned Journalism”.
The organization was initiated by employees of the largest integrator of unmanned technologies in Ukraine, the DroneUA company, in order to unite the market and form ethical standards for the use of unmanned technologies.
The Unmanned Journalism Union is a platform for discussing and finding solutions to common market problems. This is an industry-based public organization that unites citizens connected by common interests based on the nature of their professional activities — journalists and other media workers who professionally collect, receive, create and prepare information for the media, perform editorial and other official duties using drones or UAVs.
The main task of the association is legal support and assistance for UAV pilots. Additional benefits, in addition to legal support, will be access to the educational base of the union, the opportunity to participate in master classes and open events.
When joining the Professional Union of Drone Journalism, participants receive support not only in Ukraine, but also abroad, since the union was created on the basis of the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine and the International Federation of Journalists.
The main conditions for entry are activities related to the collection of information using drones and publications in the media. The Union operates on a paid basis, according to the model of membership fees, which go exclusively to administrative costs and organizational support for each participant. Also, thematic events, legal consultations and educational lectures for members will be organized at the expense of the union.
“Recently, the press has often mentioned situations where not entirely legal actions are taken against journalists who use innovative tools in their work. This concerns the issue of obstruction of journalistic activity. Our task is to make the “Professional Union of Unmanned Journalism” a tool that allows each member of the organization to obtain legal protection. And first of all, protection for UAV operators” — comments Valery Yakovenko, co-founder of DroneUA and Head of the “Professional Union of Unmanned Journalism”
